Here For Another Year

CONFERENCE SOUTH

Att: 520

CAMBRIDGE CITY - 0
SUTTON UNITED - 1  [Watkins 79.]

So this is it. The last game of the season. And I don't think I'm alone when I say "Thank fuck for that!".
Still, with last Saturday's win over Welling, at least we can head up to Cambridge and have a nice relaxed Leo Sayer without the stress and worry of still needing to get points to help keep us in this league. And with the pressure off, we decide to add a bit of fun to the day and go for a ‘Loud Shirts & funny wigs’ combo for all travelling crew members.

Meh!

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 529

SUTTON UNITED - 0
WEYMOUTH - 3     [Wheeler 8. Powell 29. McDonald 89.]

Following on from the utter relief of Saturdays win confirming our status for next season, there was an air of “who really gives a shit?” about tonight's re-arranged clash with Weymouth.

And Breathe...

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 602

SUTTON UNITED - 1     [Vansittart 87.]
WELLING UNITED - 0

Jesus christ. Thank god thats out of the way. Still, if you’d told me a couple of months back that we’d get 2 home wins to help secure our status for next season, I’d have wanted a pint of whatever you were drinking. Especially after that fucking AFC Wimbledon game.

New Pants Please!

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 340

BISHOPS STORTFORD - 3     [Parmenter 21. Martin 67. Hakim 77.]
SUTTON UNITED - 2      [Vansittart 76. Hunter 88.]

Having swerved Saturdays 3-0 dumping at Hornchurch, it’s back into the old routine for Taz and a midweek trip to Stortford as the U’s continue to search for those 3 points that will guarantee their Conference South status for next season.

Windy Couldn't Be Arsed...

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 703

HORNCHURCH - 3    [Stowe 46.55. Badu 88.]
SUTTON UNITED - 0

Match Reporter: Gareth

There should be a report here of our customary defeat at Bridge Lane, but sadly Windy, who was on reporting duties that day, has failed to produce anything despite saying he'll send it to us....shortly.

Consistency?

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 545

SUTTON UNITED - 1    [Watkins 42.]
BASINGSTOKE TOWN - 0

Oh for crying out loud!  Can someone please get hold of a dictionary (there certainly isn’t one in my house, thats for sure!), find the page bearing the description of the word ‘consistency’, get it blown up into foot high letters and then paste it onto the walls of the home chagning room at Gander Green Lane please?

Underground, Overground, We're Crap Everywhere...

SURREY SENIOR CUP SEMI-FINAL
Att: 2069

SUTTON UNITED - 0
AFC WIMBLEDON - 1    [Howard 48.]

My god. Can it possibly get any more depressing watching games at GGL this season?  Just when we thought that Weston was the zenith of shitness as far as the 2004/2005 season went, the team go and prove us wrong. We should’ve known really. If it carries on like this, any planned summer ground improvements should start with a Samaritans desk in the supporters bar. Either that or a pharmacy handing out free Prozac.

Saints & A Sinner

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 515

ST ALBANS CITY - 1     [Fieldwick 79.]
SUTTON UNITED - 2    [Gray p29. Corbett 45.]

Another saturday, another six pointer for the U’s! And sadly, for such a good away days drinking, the crew is almost pathetically threadbare. Only Windy and myself are on the early train into London.

Enter The Dragon

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 665

SUTTON UNITED - 0
NEWPORT COUNTY - 0

Christ, is it really 8 months since we made that trip into Wales and nicked that first win of the season?? My, doesn’t time fly when you’re having....er......never mind.

Saturday, 26 March 2005

Big Bad Dom!

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 633

EASTBOURNE BOROUGH - 2   [Simmonds 45. Odubade 82.]

SUTTON UNITED - 2    [Gray p47. O’Shea 90.]

After the heart stopping, artery clogging, fingernail devouring stressful 90 minutes of last saturday's visit of Maidenhead, a nice quiet, relaxing trip to the seaside would no doubt be the perfect rest cure. Sadly, when it comes to Sutton United visiting the seaside, our trips are anything but quiet and relaxing. So a long day of drinking and stupidity will have to do instead then. What a shame!

Harlem Globetrotter

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 474

SUTTON UNITED - 2    [Gonsalves 75. Honey 89]
MAIDENHEAD UNITED - 2    [O’Connor 43.67]

The week following last Saturdays abject defeat to Weston has been a bloody long one. Although quite why we’d be waiting apprehensively for the next game after that shower of shite is beyond me.

Points Go West(on) Again!

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 447

SUTTON UNITED - 1    [Gray p57]
WESTON SUPER MARE - 2    [Rawlins 28.45]

Last saturday of course produced that vital and slightly unexpected win at high flying Lewes. Their first home defeat in some 5 months no less! So how did we follow that up? By losing at home to a side as bad away from home as we are AT home of course!

Tuesday, 8 March 2005

Stale Egg Sarnies

SURREY SENIOR CUP 4th ROUND
Att: 78

EGHAM TOWN - 1    [Torson 71.]
SUTTON UNITED - 2    [Gonsalves 9. Watkins 60.]

With the postponements of last week, we’ve been left gagging for a bit of footy. Thankfully the super result at Lewes on the saturday has gone some way to filling the gap.

But, tonight’s the big one. It’s Surrey Cup time again!

Saturday, 5 March 2005

Tennis Balls and Tomatoes

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 602

LEWES - 0
SUTTON UNITED - 1    [Quinton 80.]

When the fixtures were released, as it traditional we all naturally looked for every opportunity possible to visit the seasidey type venues for a weekend of beer & footy. So much so, that even the almost-but=not-quite seasidey trips like Havant & todays oppo Lewes were seriously considered for piss ups.

Ice Age

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 294

MARGATE - 1     [Watson 80.]
SUTTON UNITED - 1    [Watkins 32.]

Another Saturday, another 6 pointer.  Margate supplied our first home league win back at the end of October, offering little resistance in a 2-0 defeat. Sadly, I doubt we’ll get as lucky today as they’re on a bit of a run, having won their last 4 games on the bounce.

Saturday, 12 February 2005

Wakey Wakey!

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 502

SUTTON UNITED - 2    [Gray 69. Corbett 76]
HAYES - 4    [Dyer 37.51.67. Dean 89]

With our recent run of injuries depleting an already thin squad, everyone at the club was pretty relieved to get 10 days off after the Surrey Cup win over Woking to rest and recuperate.

The only problem with this is, we’re notoriously bad after a break.  And this occasion proves to be no exception.

Tuesday, 1 February 2005

That's For Last April!

SURREY SENIOR CUP 3rd ROUND
Att: 182

SUTTON UNITED - 2    [Vansittart 23. Brake 83.]
WOKING - 1    [Loius 89.]

Having suffered the recent miserable run at home, culminating in saturdays gubbing at the hands of Grays, we expected the outcome of tonights clash with Woking to be little different.

Saturday, 29 January 2005

Highs & Lows

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 524

SUTTON UNITED - 0
GRAYS ATHLETIC - 6  [Martin 7.15.85. Griffiths 47. Brennan 56. West 59.]

Funny how much difference a week can make eh? Last saturday, another cracking weekend away on the piss, with a vital 3 points at Havant.  This saturday, a shambolic home performance and a complete hammering by the league leaders.

Great.

Cards Too Sharp

CONFERENCE LEAGUE CUP 3rd ROUND
Att: 204

SUTTON UNITED - 0
WOKING - 3    [Ferguson 15. Sharpling 55. Nade 73.]

Having been dumped out of the Trophy by full-time Grays last saturday, we weren’t too hopeful of springing a surprise on our old friends from Woking in this League cup encounter. Even if they did say they’d be playing several ‘fringe’ players!

Saturday, 22 January 2005

One Robbie PeTHICK

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 468

HAVANT & WATERLOOVILLE - 2  [Holdsworth 8. Town 62]
SUTTON UNITED - 3   [Gray 1. p27. Akuamouah 64]

After the recent burst in form that's seen the U’s climb away from the bottom 3, the last week has been tough. First a battling display against league leaders Grays in the Trophy ended ultimately in defeat. But at least there was something to cheer about. Unlike the terrible performance against Cambridge 3 days later. Still, we’d have the influential figures of Gray & Akuamouah back for the trip to Havant, so all is not lost.
