A Stroll By The River Mole

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: N/A

LEATHERHEAD - 0
SUTTON UNITED - 2   [Watkins 3. McBean 24]

And so we come to the final friendly. Our now almost customary trip down to Fetcham Grove in Leatherhead to meet the Tanners. A venue that not matter how crap the weather has been recently, always seems to host our visit in bright sunshine and 100 degree heat.

Taking the Lions Share...

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
Att:N/A

SUTTON UNITED - 0
MILLWALL - 2   [James 64. Noel 78]

After saturdays somewhat straightforward win over a rather poor Brentford outfit, we were hoping that Millwall's XI would present a somewhat stiffer test. Our side is boosted by the addition of two loan signings from Saturdays oppo.

Bees Stung

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
Att : 427

SUTTON UNITED - 3  [Watkins 35. McBean 65. 82]
BRENTFORD - 1   [Ide 68]

With the weather remaining somewhat shit and the quite ridiculous decision made at lunchtime to switch the Windsor game from their Stag Meadow ground to some field the other side of town, your less than intrepid reporter changed his mind with regards to attending and instead decided to avoid said match like the fucking plague.

Whyteleafe? In Pre-Season? Never!

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: N/A

WHYTELEAFE - 0
SUTTON UNITED - 3  [Garness 41. McBean 63. Watkins 70]

Having missed the opening friendly with Walton due to holidays and then the Dulwich game being washed out (A waterlogged pitch? In July? WTF?), I find myself in the unusual position of not having seen a pre-season match going into the final week of July.

Saving Ourselves Perhaps?

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
Att : N/A

LEATHERHEAD - 3   [Stevens 26.40. Charles-Smith 89]
SUTTON UNITED - 1   [Gray p90]

As final warm ups go, this certainly won’t be getting an entry into any forthcoming instructional books or videos entitled “How to make sure you’re properly prepared & raring to go for that first league game!”.

Casually Does It

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att : N/A

CORINTHIAN CASUALS - 0
SUTTON UNITED - 5   [OG 14. Cornwell 23. Tomlin 26.38. Douglas 37]

With the cancellation of two early friendlies, I guess it’s not surprising JR went looking for other opponents to help boost our pre-season programme. Fortunately, our old friends and fellow users of the colour chocolate, Casuals were on hand to offer us a game.

Not On Threesy Street Yet...

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att : N/A

HORSHAM - 3  [Taylor 40.45. Carney p47]
SUTTON UNITED - 3   [Douglas 13. OG 41. Gray p75]

Sutton’s summer bandwagon reached it’s latest destination on Tuesday evening, winding it’s way down the A24 to Horsham.

Beavers Trimmed

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att : 154

HAMPTON & RICHMOND - 0
SUTTON UNITED - 3    [Scarborough 32. Watkins 33. Marvell 72]

Note to  other clubs. If you are installing an irrigation system on your playing surface, the chances of said surface being ready for use in mid July is unlikely.  And giving 24 hours notice of the fact that your pitch is not ready is also a bit crap as well.

Orient(al) Masters

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att : 438

SUTTON UNITED - 1  [Watkins 24]
LEYTON ORIENT - 2  [Tudor 33. Alexander 47]

With Tuesdays less than enthralling encounter, we all hoped that the visit of Leyton Orient today would lead to a stronger starting 11 and if we were really lucky, a half decent game of football.

TONBRIDGE ANGELS - 1 [May 54]

Hello everyone, we’re baaaaaack! Bet you’ve missed us eh?

Hot Hot Hot!

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: N/A

LEATHERHEAD  - 1   [Tavares 73.]
SUTTON UNITED - 2    [Vansittart 10. Martin 55.]

We played Leatherhead at a similar point last summer and it was hot. Fucking hot.
This year?

Hot. Fucking hot.

Let's Play 'Who The Fuck Is That?' Again!

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: N/A

DULWICH HAMLET  - 1 [Coleman 90.]
SUTTON UNITED - 1    [Gray 17.]

After the trip to Bansted, our pre-season took a turn for the worse with the cancellation of the game at Staines, then with the apparent ‘double booking’ of the Tuesday game here at Dulwich.

One question. How do you double book a pre-season friendly exactly? It's not like you're awash with fixtures with which to get confused...

On The Subject Of A 'New Defence'...

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: N/A

HORLEY TOWN - 0
SUTTON UNITED - 3    [Gauci 29. Gray p75. Watkins 90.]

Lets face it. It’s been a shit summer.

After the highs at the end of last season, we’ve had to put up with the loss of 3 important members of an excellent squad with possibly another 2 on their way. And when you add another disappointing exit from an international tournament from our national team, you’ll get what I mean.

Last Chance Look-See

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: N/A

BANSTEAD ATH - 0
SUTTON UNITED - 1  [Collins 88]

Now onto the final rehersal. Sutton, for some reason, took the unusual step of playing a friendly mid-week, with most other sides taking it easy prior to tbe big kick-off on Saturday.

Revenge For '63! Sort Of...

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: 1504

SUTTON UNITED - 1  [Collins 70]
AFC WIMBLEDON - 0

Bollocks it’s hot. But then again, you’d probably noticed that yourselves eh? Got windows in your house no doubt. And you watch the news\weather and stuff. So quite how 2 teams were expected to put on a football match today when even so much as lifting a pint pot left I and the boys exhausted & sweating like an overweight young lady in a discotheque was beyond me.

A Tale Of Two Penalties

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: N/A

DULWICH HAMLET - 1 [Haughton 61]
SUTTON UNITED - 2  [Watson 16. Bolt 88p]

The U’s return to the scene of their Surrey Cup semi-triumph from last season for what we expect to be probably our toughest test of the pre-season so far. And like that drizzly night a couple of months back, 2 penalties decided the outcome.

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: N/A

LEATHERHEAD - 2 [Ruggles 51. Charles-Smith 85]
SUTTON UNITED - 3  [Collins 27. Fowler 33.63p]

Next up for the U’s Surrey based pre-season bandwagon? Why Leatherhead of course!

'Leafe Fall

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: N/A

WHYTELEAFE - 0
SUTTON UNITED - 2  [Palmer 2. Bailey 15]

Along with the Molesey game, another almost-permanent-fixture of a Sutton United pre-season programme is a trip to the pleasant, leafy surroundings of Whyteleafe’s Chruch Lane ground. Recent visits have met with mixed results. And win or lose a crap season generally follows.

Weiners & Flat Roofs

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: 302

EASTBOURNE BOROUGH - 0
SUTTON UNITED - 2  [Corbett 77. Gray 86]

Aaaah! At long last. A trip to the seaside for some football. Basically an excuse to get completely bollocksed and get up to all sorts of mischief. If we’re lucky.  With us not having near a beach in ages for a game and the 2 now legendary Weymouth trips fading into the mists of time, the usual suspects were planning on making the most of this one. Especially as our next opportunity, the trip to Bognor, is scheduled for 5 days before Xmas.

Mountains, Molehills

PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: N/A

MOLESEY - 1   [Unknown 3]
SUTTON UNITED - 3   [Bailey 20. Rogers 23. Fowler 89]

Well, it’s the pre-season, so that must mean a friendly game at Molesey?
