44 Years And Counting

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att : 950

SUTTON UNITED - 1   [OG 43]
BOBBINS - 1   [Nwanze 16]

Before we start, I'd just like to wish all our readers a Happy New Year. And this is despite the fact that not one of you miserable fuckers out there sent us a card for Gandermonium's 8th birthday recently, let alone get us a cake, buy us a drink or even hold a lavish surprise party.

Are Those All The Lights You’ve Got?

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att : 1053

BOBBINS - 0
SUTTON UNITED - 0

My doesn’t time fly.  It only seems like a couple of weeks ago the season got underway and yet here we are, at Xmas already, with virtually half the games played. And Xmas means only one thing.
No no, not turkey. Or that fat bloke with a beard in a red suit. It’s derby time!

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 1044

SUTTON UNITED - 4  [Vansittart 32. Scarborough 72. Akuamouah 80. Brake 86.]
BOBBINS - 1    [OG 1.]

With the Borough's Xmas bragging rights all sewn up after Boxing Days 2-1 win at Coldsore to go with that League Cup win at GGL a month ago, the U’s welcome our rivals for the second meeting in under 7 days. A derby grand slam once again within their grasp.

Same Shit, Different Xmas

CONFERENCE SOUTH
Att: 1071

BOBBINS - 1 [Elliot 37.]
SUTTON UNITED - 2  [Watkins 73. Gray p75]

For most people, Christmas is all about eating turkey, giving gifts and getting pissed a lot. For us, it means a local derby and a chance to inflict some misery on our dear neighbours from Carshalton. Oh and of course, we’ve been known to partake in the getting pissed bit on occasion.

What's A Carthium?

CONFERENCE LEAGUE CUP 1st ROUND
Att: 259

SUTTON UNITED - 3    [Boosey 1. Vansittart 28. Gray p90.]
CARSHALTON ATHLETIC - 2    [Saunders 18. Hartburn 71.]

Now, as you probably realise, the highlight of our season is getting to remind that lot down the road just who’s boss in this here Borough. This year, it’s back to the good ol’ days. 2 quickfire derbies over Xmas & New Year with none of this modern rubbish about playing months apart.

BOBBINS - 2    [Stone 7. OG 9]
SUTTON UNITED - 2      [Bailey 25. Boosey 74]

Having got some good practice in sweeping aside poor opposition when turning over K’s on the Saturday, we were looking forward to doling out a bit more of some Xmas style arse-kicking on our ever cheery neighbours from Colston Avenue.

What Eight Grand Buys You...

SURREY SENIOR CUP 5TH ROUND
Att: 432

SUTTON UNITED - 2 [Fowler 29. Bolt 40]
BOBBINS - 0

The U’s recovered from their awful performance on Saturday and as required, got the job done against our old muckers from Coldsore Avenue, managed by our number 1 favouritest human being and saddest fattest greyest old man of them all, Mr Graham Roberts.

Well Done, You Won One...

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
Att: N/A

BOBBINS - 3 [Webb 50.60. Williams 61]
SUTTON UNITED - 1 [Hanlan 45]

So to our penultimate fixture of what has proved to be a slightly....ahem!......’disappointing’ pre-season program. A meeting with the seemingly revitalised scummy tossers from up the road.

We Love Paul Whitmarsh we do

RYMAN PREMIER DIVISION
Att: 902

SUTTON UNITED - 3  [Whitmarsh 15.54. Harlow 44]
BOBBINS - 1  [Fowler p31]

Wahey!!!  The U’s finally decide to win a match in 2001 with yours truly present. And what a game to win, once again cementing our place as the number 1 team in the borough by sending the Scummers packing back to Coldsore Avenue with another nail in their relegation coffin courtesy of  a 3-1 beating.

Merry Christmas. Just About!

RYMAN PREMIER DIVISION
Att: 1064

BOBBINS – 0
SUTTON UNITED – 1  [Thompson 30]

Well, here it is. The big one. The game that muggins here always seems to have to travel approx 200 miles to witness, only to usually see an pretty crap game of ‘football’.

Can You Hear a Robin Sing?

SURREY SENIOR CUP FINAL

Sutton United - 3    [Akrour 25, Harlow 44, S.Watson 80]
Carshalton - 0

Played @ Metropolitan Police FC

The answer to the title is of course a resounding 'No', just in case you were wondering. You weren't? Oh ok then. So, Sutton swept to their 3rd Surrey Senior Cup Final victory over their local rivals with consummate ease at Imber Court, encountering minor resistance from the the Bobbins who had only escaped the drop into Division 1 by the narrowest of possible margins last week.

Festive Fluster...

RYMAN PREMIER DIVISION
Att: 1200

Carshalton Athletic - 1  [Battams  40]
Sutton United - 0

God, I swear if I ever see another game of ‘football’ as bad as this, I think I’ll take up golf or something (I use the phrase football, but my solicitors are currently looking into this with regard to a violation of the Trades Description Act).

You Thought You Had Won...

SURREY SENIOR CUP FINAL
Att:

Sutton United - 3  [Watson 89.93. Feltham 91]
Carshalton Athletic - 1  [Dack 78]

Played @ Woking FC

I and most U’s fans probably remember this as the greatest of all the times we’ve captured the county cup, certainly since the early 80’s. The second time in three seasons the two sides from the London Borough of Sutton had contested the final and like the first in ‘93 the cup would be heading back to GGL, but this time in the most dramatic of circumstances.

It's Not Wembley, But It'll Do...

SURREY SENIOR CUP FINAL
Att:

CARSHALTON ATHLETIC - 1   [Bowyer 88]
SUTTON UNITED - 2  [Golley 36. Thomas 68]

Played @ Gander Green Lane, Sutton.

This was the first time the borough’s 2 teams had contested the Surrey Cup Final and it completed a fairly good season for both sides. The Robins, under the wily Billy Smith had just finished one of their best ever campaigns having finished well in the top 5 and were fielding arguably the strongest side assembled in their history. Meanwhile the U’s had come within 90 minutes of an FA Trophy Final appearance at Wembley having lost 6-3 on aggregate to the all conquering Wycombe. This was made all the more disappointing by the fact they’d won 3-2 at the Conference table toppers before crashing 4-0 at GGL.
